Partners agree SK408 gas sales deal

Petronas to purchase volumes from newly developed fields off Sarawak

SapuraOMV Upstream, along with partners Petronas Carigali and Shell, have agreed a deal with Petronas for the sale of gas from the Gorek, Larak and Bakong fields, which fall under the first phase of development on the SK408 block off Malaysia.

The natural gas production from the planned project off Sarawak, East Malaysia will be directed to the Petronas liquefied natural gas complex in Bintulu.

“The UGSA further strengthens SapuraOMV’s position as a significant supplier of natural gas in Malaysia and is another significant step in unlocking the value of our gas assets," SapuraOMV chairman Shahril Shamsuddin said.

"The added volume from Gorek, Larak and Bakong is part of our growth strategy to realise our vision of becoming one of the largest independent oil and gas companies in the region."

First gas from the development is expected in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The discoveries were made during a 2014 campaign and will be developed via three wellhead platforms.

SapuraOMV, a joint venture between Sapura Energy and OMV Exploration & Production, operates the Larak and Bakong fields while Shell operates the Gorek field.
