Murphy farms into Wintershall Dea's Brazil blocks

German player offers up 30% stake in three offshore tracts

US independent Murphy Oil has partnered with German player Wintershall Dea for three exploration licences in Brazil’s Potiguar basin.

Wintershall Dea will retain a 70% participating interest and operatorship in offshore blocks POT-M-857, POT-M-863 and POT-M-865, the company said on Wednesday.

Wintershall aims to spin drillbit in Potiguar basin

A three-month drilling campaign in POT-M-857 is expected to kick off in April 2021, according to documents obtained by Upstream. The block is on trend with an earlier Petrobras discovery called Pitu.

Wintershall Dea grabbed the three blocks in the country's 15th licensing round last year.

The deal is still subject to final regulatory approvals from Brazil’s government.
