Halliburton cuts 650 US jobs

US oilfield services firm slashes workforce across four states amid sluggish market

Oilfield services giant Halliburton is cutting 650 jobs in its US Rockies region because of soft market activity.

Halliburton confirmed the cuts on Wednesday and said the move will impact workers in Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and North Dakota.

The company has offered the majority of those employees the option to re-locate to other areas where "more activity is anticipated," a spokesperson said.

"Making this decision was not easy, nor taken lightly, but unfortunately it was necessary as we work to align our operations to reduced customer activity," the spokesperson said.

Halliburton previously announced an 8% reduction in its US workforce in an effort to slash costs in a sluggish market.
