Equinor under way at Lanterna

Semisub West Hercules drilling ahead at Norwegian Sea wildcat after safety nod

Equinor has spudded a wildcat at the Lanterna prospect in the Norwegian Sea after getting the safety green light from the authorities.

The 6407/3-2S probe is being drilled by Seadrill-owned semi-submersible West Hercules in a water depth of 237 metres in Equinor-operated production licence 796B to the north-west of the state-controlled operator’s Mikkel field.

With an expected duration of 45 days, it is the first exploration well to be drilled in the licence that is operated by Equinor with a 60% interest alongside partners Vaar Energi and Edison on 20% apiece.
